MTSA Participates in 2011 "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive
May 14 th , the date of this year’s food drive, was unseasonably cold, windy and rainy. Exactly the type of weather that is not conductive to a food drive. Despite the weather, the mail must go through and the letter carriers not only delivered mail that day but also picked up food donations from people on the letter carrier’s routes. This is the largest food drive in Minnesota and is part of a nationwide effort of the National Association of Letter Carriers to provide for hungry families.
The MTSA members listed below provided a mixture of straight trucks and tractor-trailers at 22 locations in Minneapolis , St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs. Over 900,000 pounds of food was collected this year. Even though this was down from last year, our members actually transported 10% more food this year than last year. Our Executive Director, Howard Markus, served as MTSA logistic coordinator for this year’s event.
